1. NAM MÔ HẮC RA ÐÁT NA ÐA RA DẠ DA

南無喝囉怛那哆囉夜耶

NA MÔ RÁT-NA-TRA-DẠ-DA.

(NAMO RATNATRAYÀYA)

Từ quán Bi quán Hỷ Xả quán

Phổ độ Chúng sanh Hóa đại thiên

Hữu duyên Vô duyên Đồng nhiếp thọ 

Ly khổ Đắc lạc Phản bổn nguyên.

慈觀悲觀喜捨觀

普度眾生化大千

有緣無緣同攝受

離苦得樂返本源

With a kind, compassionate regard, a regard full of joy and giving,

He rescues all beings, transforming great-thousand world systems.

Gathering in those with and without prior affinities,

He helps them to end suffering, find joy, and return to the source.

身口意輪大總持

萬朵蓮華正開時

白青紅紫光遍照

有緣佛子赴聖席

Our body, mouth and mind form a wheel that is this mighty dharani.

As the many-petaled lotus blossom just begins to open,

White, green, red, and purple light shines on us all,

Disciples of the Buddha have affinities to join the sages' celebrations.

持缽觀音救世間

應病與藥潤三千

拜禮虔誠護感召

一切所求滿心願

Holding a bowl, Contemplating Sounds saves us mortals.

Prescribing medicine to cure our ills, he nurtures the three thousand worlds.

Bowing in homage, we earnestly entreat him to answer our calls.

In various ways he fulfills all our heart's desires.

Bồ tát Trì thử Độ quần mê

Tụng chú Tác quán Tam Ma Địa

Tức thân Thành Phật vị túc kỳ.

絹索妙用不思議

菩薩持此度群迷

誦咒作觀三摩地

即身成佛未足奇

The wonderful functions of the lariat reach beyond words and thought.

Holding this, Bodhisattvas rescue those in confusion.

Chanting this mantra while contemplating brings Samadhi.

To reach Buddhahood in this life is not impossible.

Tự tha Kiêm lợi Công thành tựu

Đồng nhập Bát Nhã giải thoát môn.

覺諸有情種聖因

道證無為契真心

自他兼利功成就

同入般若解脫門

Enlightening sentient beings plants causes for sagehood.

When we reach the unconditioned Way, we tally with the true mind.

As we benefit others and ourselves, our merit becomes perfected.

Thus, together we enter the prajna doors to liberation.

拔苦與樂瘉沈痾

起死回生施甘露

跋折羅手蕩妖魔

The Great Knight Horse Whinny transforms the Saha World.

Relieving suffering, bestowing bliss, he cures our illness.

The dead come back to life when he gives them his sweet dew.

The Vajra Hand is too hot for vampires and demons to handle.

UM!

Vô thỉ Vô chung Vô cổ kim

Hư không Pháp giới Nhất khẩu thôn

Tự tánh Tịch nhiên Phi nội ngoại

Như thị Như thị Như thị nhân.

無始無終無古今

虛空法界一口吞

自性寂然非內外

如是如是如是因

Beginningless, endless, neither ancient nor modern.

Swallow the void and the Dharma Realm in a single gulp.

Our own tranquil nature is not inside or outside.

So it is! So it is! The causes are just like this.

護世四王日夜忙

賞善罰惡眾魔降

菩薩化現伏群怪

龍盤虎臥禮法皇

The Four Kings who protect our world patrol night and day.

Rewarding good and punishing evil, they tame all demons.

Bodhisattvas appear by transformation to quell hordes of monsters.

Dragons coil and tigers crouch before the Dharma Lord.

Cải quá Thiên thiện Bần giả phú

Đắc Sanh Cực Lạc chúng khổ ly.

天兵天將猛無敵

天魔落膽不足奇

改過遷善貧者富

得生極樂眾苦離

 The heavenly generals and troops exhibit matchless courage

That regularly turns the celestial demons into trembling cowards.

By changing faults and becoming good, the poor can get rich.

Attaining rebirth in Ultimate Bliss, we separate from suffering.

有威斯通難思議

無求不應三昧力

龍樹尊者伏魔冤

行人莫患得菩提

Responses to requests are often amazing and hard to describe.

Due to the strength of Samadhi, no prayer is left unanswered.

The Venerable Dragon Tree calms the demons' wrath.

Those who practice are free of disasters and attain Bodhi.

Nishyanda Buddha, the fine and perfect reward body,

Protects and supports those who practice with the greatest mastery and ease.

Hearing their sounds, he saves beings of worlds in ten directions,

So they leave mundane defilements-such is the might of the Dharma!

清淨法身遮那佛

廣度眾生化娑婆

成就金剛堅固體

同登彼岸蜜波羅

Clear, pure Dharma-body Vairochana Buddha

Rescues vast numbers of beings here in the Saha world.

Developing Vajra-like rock-solid tough physiques,

We can climb up onto the other shore and reach paramita.

慈能與樂悲拔苦

普化群生成佛祖

羊頭神王護行人

虎狼惡獸皆無阻

Kindness makes others happy, compassion alleviates suffering.

By teaching multitudes of beings, we can become Buddhas and Patriarchs.

This sheep-headed spirit king protects those who practice,

Keeping at bay tigers, wolves, and other beasts.

普救群萌得安康

六道四生成利樂

慈悲喜捨助法王

The sweet dew anointing our crowns makes us feel cool and refreshed.

Saving countless beings who attain health and safety.

Those born in four ways in the six paths attain benefits and bliss.

Kindness, compassion, joy, and giving aid the Dharma King.

夜叉天王披虎皮

賞善罰惡拯危急

巡行四方記功過

主持公道平等齊

This yaksha deva king is wrapped in a tiger hide.

Rewards the good, punishes evil -- rescuing in the nick of time.

While patrolling in all four directions, he notes our merit and errors.

Maintaining justice, he makes sure that we each get treated equally.

觀音化現神王身

千手法寶妙難窮

蛇髻黑面伏妖怪

正法久住願弘深

Contemplator of Sounds appears in the guise of a spirit king.

In his thousand hands, these Dharma jewels are an endless wonder.

A snake coiled around his crown and his black face tame monsters.

The Proper Dharma abides due to vows that are vast and deep.

善人歡喜惡人怖

憂苦遠離萬病瘳

佛眼觀察遍法界

金輪摧滅一切魔

This line makes good people happy and evil people afraid.

Those worried and in suffering become far removed from sickness.

The Buddha Eye regards the entire Dharma Realm.

The golden wheel rolls over and destroys each and every demon.

出廣長舌遍三千

觀音示現化男女

應供殺賊阿羅漢

自利利他覺行圓

A vast and long tongue fills the three thousand lands,

While Contemplating Sounds appears to teach women and men.

All Arhats are worthy of offerings and killers of thieves,

And by benefiting self and others, enlightenment and practice are perfected.

鬼神恭敬聽梵音

三目洞悉眾生心

一切求願皆成就

萬行同入般若門

Ghosts and spirits respectfully listen to these pure sounds.

Three eyes can see right into beings' hearts.

Our vows will be fulfilled and all we seek will surely be attained.

The myriad practices all lead us to enter the doors to prajna.

大梵天王率神兵

十方菩薩同現身

度脫眾生出苦海

速登彼岸寂滅城

The lord of the Brahama Heaven commands spirits troops.

Bodhisattva of the ten directions each display a body

To rescue and liberate beings so they leave the sea of suffering.

Swiftly ascending the other shore, we find the city of tranquility.

黑色帝神顯威風

東西南北任縱橫

發聾振聵慈悲主

日夜不休救眾生

 

This black spirit ruler assumes an awesome air.

North, south, east, and west-he can roam wherever he pleases.

Shocking the deaf, arousing the blind, this compassionate Lord

Never rest day or night in his rescue of beings.

Massive spirit troops in the Thirty-three Heavens

Revere and obey the commands of these secret efficacious phrases.

Rewarding good and punishing evil, they protect the proper teaching.

Throughout the world, peace and equanimity reign supreme.

Hàng phục Chư ma Chánh pháp hưng.

堅實真心求皆應

廣大靈感無不通

慈悲普度波羅蜜

降伏諸魔正法興

With a firm, true mind we will gain a respond to our seeking.

No request, no matter how great, will go unanswered.

Kindness and compassion brought to paramita rescues creatures.

When demons are subdued the Proper Dharma flourishes unhindered.

青黃赤白黑鬼兵

服勞執役聽教化

感應道交救群生

Accumulated Fragrance Bodhisattva is an awesome and mighty spirit.

Ghosts of blue, yellow, red, white, and black hue

Toil and slave, obeying the teaching and changing themselves.

When responses mesh the Way, all kinds of beings are saved.

Hỗ tương Miễn lệ Hỗ tinh tấn

Long hoa Hội thượng Khánh hoan hân.

互相勉勵互精進

同修善法續心印

他日成就菩提果

龍華會上慶歡欣

Urge each other on and share your vigorous resolve.

Join together in practice to perpetuate the mind seal.

Then when fruition of complete Bodhi enlightenment is yours,

You can rejoice among the Dragon Flower Assembly.

大小權實顯威神

金剛不壞常自在

天眼遙觀天耳聞

Responding to those who are ready, he appears in boundless bodies.

With awesome spirit, he reveals things great and small, provisional and real.

This vajra indestructible body is forever free at ease.

As his heavenly eye contemplates, his heavenly ear listens.

空身空心空世界

天大將軍領天兵

巡遊諸方察善惡

功賞過罰無錯分

My body and mind are empty, the world is empty too.

A mighty celestial general leads his celestial troops.

Patrolling in many lands, they investigate good and evil as they roam,

Rewarding merit, punishing transgressions precisely with no mistake.

蠻兵勇猛戰無敵

孔雀雄威鎮群魑

菩薩號令巡天下

護善除惡度眾迷

This ruthless army exhibits its matchless courage in battle.

This fierce, heroic peacock shocks the mountain sprites.

Bodhisattvas issue commands as they patrol the entire universe.

Protecting the good, dispelling evil, and clearing up confusions.

大苦大樂大慈悲

修諸善法力無畏

寶杵降魔護行者

三災八難一時摧

Wherever there is great pain or great joy, there will be great compassion.

Cultivate wholesome Dharmas with a strength that knows no fear.

The jeweled pestle quells demons and protects practitioners

While also warding off the three disasters and eight difficulties.

法相莊嚴離諸過

以德感人心誠服

望之儼然即溫和

Appearing as a most unusual rare and mighty hero,

His adorned classic features are free of any flaws.

Using virtue to move people, his mind remains humble and sincere.

He is stern in appearance, yet gentle in nature.

Troops led by a lion king verify our chants and incantations,

That number from thousands to ten of thousands to infinite times.

Amassing goodness through beneficial deeds, our merit is made full

And we achieve Bodhisattvahood, reaching levels of supreme fruition.

Quelling all demons so the Proper Dharma can flourish forever,

A jagged bolt of lightning terrifies ghosts and spirits.

The universe clears and is pure as vampires’ auras subside.

With the wisdom sun shining on high we rejoice in peace.

Such fierce glaring scowls cause the deviant demons to cringe!

Such boundless awesome virtue protects every Buddha!

Beings one and all attain both peace and happiness.

When Bodhisattvas’ deeds are done they laugh, “Ho! Ho!”

The mighty god Maheshvara is bold, yet often cruel.

Rewarding good and punishing evil, his merit is outstanding.

He enables the masses sunk in confusion to climb upon the far shore.

There is no beginning or end to the creatures he benefits and transforms.

Ma-ha Bát-nhã Nhật dạ minh.

示善示惡攝眾生

忽順忽逆折性靈

返本還原修諸己

摩訶般若日夜明

Appearing to be good, appearing to be evil, he gathers in all beings.

Now complying, now defying, he subdues our natures.

Returning to the source involves curing our own faults.

That way, our maha prajna wisdom gets brighter by day and by night.

The Forty-two Hands are wonderful beyond scope or measure.

Penetrating heaven and earth, they aid and assist the confused.

Swift is their prowess with shields, bows, and arrows.

Bullies are tamed and the gentle get a chance to thrive.

How majestic and courageous, yet kind and compassionate is this great general

Who subdues and tames us beings so we can leave the paths of confusion.

We should change what’s bad, follow what’s good, and perfect our practice

By developing blessings and wisdom and awakening to True Suchness.

Contemplating Sounds appears as a king of ghosts and spirits.

Who forces the demons to submit and follow the rules and regulations.

Each and every being relies on the teaching and instructions.

The strong are pacified, and the weak are able to flourish.

This four-armed deity reveals an awesome spirit.

When the deviant demons observe that impressive magnificent air,

They take refuge with the Triple Jewel and start contemplating self-mastery.

Amassing merit and practicing good, they foster their virtue.

Wholesome and clever expedients save those in the Saha world.

A display of five turbidities transforms hordes of demons.

Constant selfless practice will bring paramita.

Renouncing attachment to dharmas as well is the Mahayana.

不可思議常在定

The wisdom that contemplates and the states that are contemplated

Are perfectly fused and at ease in the Nature of True Suchness.

Boundless resolve and vows benefit all living beings.

How inconceivable to be able to always reside in deep Samadhi!

世界眾生妄想凝

諸佛本源離文字

如是我聞大悲功

When the many creatures speak the Dharma, who listens?

Worldly beings are formed by solidifying of false thoughts.

The original source of the Buddhas is beyond the spoken and written word.

“Thus I have heard” is the function of great compassion.

攝受眾生登彼岸

迴光返照歸故鄉

Using kindness, compassion, joy, and giving, the four infinite minds,

She reveals wholesome aspects to transform the untaught masses.

Gathering in beings, she helps them ascend to the other shore.

Returning her light she shines it within and goes back home.

Contemplating Sounds may show up in an ugly evil shape

To restrain these stubborn and violent ones until they change their minds.

When Prajna wisdom is revealed, everyone certifies to nonproduction

And enters again the Saha world to rescue sentient ones.

Kindly displaying a compassionate air, he transforms evil people,

Who feel so secure that even in dreams their spirit is clear.

The reward of blessings they attain is infinite and boundless as well.

Bodhi Prajna arises from our own profound practice.

Contemplating Sounds shows up as Venerable Dragon Tree,

Who, gathering those who are ready, helps them leave the fiery pit.

Finding our way to the source is realizing proper enlightenment.

The Sutra of Dharma Realm is unveiled from within a mote of dust.

Wielding an iron spear, he makes his rounds day and night.

He awakens beings to do every kind of good deed

And not to fall into boundless sea of suffering.

The vajra pestle challenges the massive hordes of demons.

Using lotus blossom recitations beads is mindful of Amitabha Buddha.

The thundering sound startles awake the dull and confused.

Coming out of the dream, we find even one word too much.

The abundant ocean of Dharma rescues absolutely everyone.

All beings and I leave self and others behind.

When the massive bright light he emits shines on the whole world,

Those born from wombs, eggs, transformations, or moisture no longer hang upside down.

Beings in the nine realms achieve Proper Enlightenment.

How lofty Eternity, Bliss, True Self, and Purity are!

Are freed of obstacles and difficulties, resolving their mind on Bodhi.

誓願眾生成聖賢

According with their kinds, he appears as various gods to rescue them.

By joining in their work, doing good deeds, he attracts those with conditions.

Ignoring himself for the sake of others, he is truly selfless.

He vows that all beings will become worthy sages.

With gradual, gentle, and wholesome enticements, she instructs tirelessly.

Her kindness and compassion are fair and equal in gathering in beings.

With manifestation as many as a sea of dust motes, he appears in infinite bodies.

He diligently plows the field of the six perfections and myriad practices.

Turning from the Small and embracing the Great is the Bodhi fruit.

Saving ourselves and teaching others is the Prajna mind.

All afflictions of sentient beings are completely cut off.

A delicate lotus wells forth from the ground.

His sound, like the ocean’s roar, awakens us from dreams and confusion.

Cowards muster their will; the greedy become incorruptible.

Hóa hiện Dược-vương đại Bồ-tát

Trừ Ôn diệt Dịch cứu-hằng-sa

Phổ lịnh Hữu tình Ly tật khổ

Cam lộ Biến sái Hàm thức nha.

化現藥王大菩薩

除瘟滅疫救恆沙

普令有情離疾苦

甘露遍灑含識芽

Transforming and appearing as the Great Bodhisattva Medicine King,

He expels disease and eradicates plagues, saving millions.

Enabling beings to escape pestilence and leave suffering,

His sweet dew is sprinkled on the sprouts of those with feeling and awareness.

Quán hạnh Khởi tu Lễ Pháp Vương

Phước huệ Trang nghiêm Diệu đạo tràng

Nhược năng Chứng đắc Thâm Bát-nhã

Độ chư Khổ ách Ngộ chơn thường.

觀行起修禮法王

福慧莊嚴妙道場

若能證得深般若

度諸苦厄悟真常

Through contemplative practice cultivation arises: homage to the Buddhas.

Blessings and wisdom make our Way-place adorned and magnificent.

If we can certify to deep profound prajna then certainly,

We can cross beyond all suffering, awakening to the eternal truth.

娑婆 摩訶 阿悉陀夜

SẠT-RÁT-VA, MA-HA  ÁT-TAY-DA.

Hằng thuận Chúng sanh Giáo Ta-Bà

Ngũ Trược Ác Thế Hóa quần ma

Sa lý Đào kim Cầu Hiền Khát

Thủy trung Lao nguyệt Bất-bì-chuyết.

恆順眾生教娑婆

五濁惡世化群魔

沙裡淘金求賢渴

水中撈月不疲輟

Always complying with beings, he teaches those in the Saha land,

And the evil world of five turbidities, transforming demons.

Panning for gold in the sand, he searches ardently for sages,

Never wearying of trying to catch the moon in the water.

Vô-tự-chân-kinh Quải thân biên

Trí như Đại hải Định như sơn

Giới đức Viên minh Quang-biến-chiếu

Phổ nhiếp Quần cơ Độ hữu duyên.

無字真經掛身邊

智如大海定如山

戒德圓明光遍照

普攝群機度有緣

With the wordless true Sutra hanging ever by his side,

His wisdom matches the ocean; his Samadhi, a lofty mountain.

When precepts and virtue are perfected, clear light shines everywhere.

Gathering beings in when they're ready, he saves those with affinities.

者吉囉 阿悉陀夜

SẤC CỜ-RA, ÁT-TAY-DA.

Sắc-thân-tam-muội Hiện tam thiên

Kiến tướng Văn danh thoát-vô-gián

Liễu sanh Đại pháp Đăng bỉ ngạn

Hàm mông Nhiếp thọ Giác vương tiền.

色身三昧現三千

見相聞名脫無間

了生大法登彼岸

咸蒙攝受覺王前

His physical body in Samadhi, he appears throughout the universe.

Seeing his form, hearing his name, frees us from the hells.

Fathoming life’s one great matter, we have made it across.

Thus all of us are personally gathered in by the Enlightened King.

Tu đạo Hành giả Mạc tự khi

Yểm nhĩ Đạo linh Thậm bất nghi

Khai hoa Nan kết Chơn thật quả

Quang âm Không quá Thái-khả-tích.

修道行者莫自欺

掩耳盜鈴甚不宜

開花難結真實果

光陰空過太可惜

Cultivators of the Way, do not cheat yourselves.

It won’t work to plug your ears while stealing a bell.

Barren blossoms cannot bear real fruit.

What a shame to leave precious time pass by vain!
