Như thị ngã văn: Nhứt thời Phật tại Xá-vệ quốc, Kỳ thọ Cấp-cô-độc viên, 

如是我聞。一時佛在舍衛國，祇樹給孤獨園。

Thus have I heard: Once Buddha was in the land of Shravasti, in the garden of Jeta and Anathapindika.

dữ đại Tỳ-kheo tăng, thiên nhị bá ngũ thập nhơn câu,

與大比丘僧，千二百五十人俱，

He was accompanied by twelve hundred and fifty great Bhikshus, 

giai thị đại A-La-hán, chúng sở tri thức:

皆是大阿羅漢，眾所知識：

all of them great Arhats, well known to the assembly. 

Trưởng-lão Xá-Lợi-Phất, Ma-ha Mục-kiền-liên, Ma-ha Ca-diếp, Ma-ha Ca-chiên-diên, Ma-ha Câu-hy-la, Li-bà-đa, Châu-lợi bàn-đà-dà, Nan-đà, A-Nan-đà, La-hầu-la, Kiều-phạm-ba-đề, Tân-đầu-lô-phả-la-đọa, Ca-lưu-đà-di, Ma-ha Kiếp-tân-na, Bạc-Câu-la, A-nâu-lâu-đà, như thị đẳng chư đại đệ tử, 

長老舍利弗、摩訶目犍連、摩訶迦葉、摩訶迦旃延、摩訶俱絺羅、離婆多、周利槃陀伽、難陀、阿難陀、羅侯羅、憍梵波提、賓頭盧頗羅墮、迦留陀夷、摩訶劫賓那、薄拘羅、阿那樓馱，如是等諸大弟子。

Among them were his leading disciples, such figures as the Elders Shariputra, Maudgalyayana, Mahakashyapa, Maha Katyayana, and Mahakausthila, Revata, Suddhipanthaka, Nanda, Ánanda, Rahula, Gavampati, Pindola-bharadvaja, Kalodayin, Mahakapphina, Vakula, and Aniruddha, etc., all great disciples.

 

tinh chư Bồ-tát ma-ha-tát. Văn-thù Sư-lợi pháp-vương-tử, A-dật-đa Bồ-tát, Càng Đà-ha-đề Bồ-tát, Thường-tinh-tấn Bồ-tát, dữ như thị đẳng, chư đại Bồ-tát; 

并諸菩薩摩訶薩：文殊師利法王子、阿逸多菩薩、乾陀訶提菩薩、常精進菩薩，與如是等諸大菩薩。

Also present were the Bodhisattvas Mahasattva: Manjushri, Prince of the Dharma, the Bodhisattva Ajita the Invincible, and the Bodhisattva of Constant Progress, Gandhahastin, Nityodyukta, and other such great enlightening beings. 

cập Thích-đề-hoàn nhơn đẳng, vô-lượng chư thiên, đại-chúng câu.

及釋提桓因等，無量諸天大眾俱。

Also present was Shakra, the king of the gods, along with countless numbers of heavenly beings, making up a great assembly.

Nhĩ thời Phật cáo Trưởng lão Xá-Lợi-Phất: "Tùng thị Tây-phương quá thập vạn ức Phật-độ, hữu thế-giới danh viết Cực-lạc kỳ độ hữu Phật hiệu A-Di-Đà, kim hiện tại thuyết-pháp".

爾時，佛告長老舍利弗：「從是西方，過十萬億佛土，有世界名曰極樂，其土有佛，號阿彌陀，今現在說法。」

At that time Buddha said to the Elder Shariputra: "West of here, past a hundred billion Buddha-lands, there exists a world called "Ultimate Bliss". In this land there exists a Buddha called Amitabha, who is expounding the Dharma right now. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ độ hà cố danh vi Cực-lạc? 

舍利弗，彼土何故名為極樂？

[Buddha says to Shariputra:] "Why is this land called Ultimate Bliss"? 

Kỳ quốc chúng-sanh vô hữu chúng khổ, đản thọ chư 

lạc, cố danh Cực-lạc. 

其國眾生，無有眾苦，但受諸樂，故名極樂。

It is called "Ultimate Bliss" because the sentient beings in this land are free from the myriad sufferings and only know every kind of joy. 

Hựu Xá-Lợi-Phất! Cực-lạc quốc độ, thất trùng lan thuẫn, thất trùng la-võng, thất trùng hàng thọ, giai thị tứ bảo, châu tráp vi nhiễu, thị cố bỉ quốc danh vi Cực-lạc.

又舍利弗。極樂國土，七重欄楯，七重羅網，七重行樹，皆是四寶周匝圍繞，是故彼國名為極樂。

Furthermore, this land is called "Ultimate Bliss" because it is surrounded by seven rings of railings, and seven layers of nets, and seven rows of trees, all made of the four precious jewels. 

Hựu Xá-Lợi-Phất! Cực-lạc quốc độ, hữu thất bảo trì, bát công-đức thủy, sung mãn kỳ trung, trì để thuần dĩ kim sa bố địa, Tứ biên giai đạo, kim ngân, lưu-ly, pha-lê hiệp thành; thượng hữu, lâu các, diệc dĩ kim, ngân, lưu-ly, pha-lê, xa-cừ, xích-châu, mã-não nhi nghiêm sức chi. Trì chung liên-hoa, đại như xa luân, thanh sắc thanh quang, huỳnh sắc huỳnh quang, xích sắc xích quang, bạch sắc bạch quang, vi diệu hương khiết.

又舍利弗。極樂國土，有七寶池，八功德水，充滿其中，池底純以金沙布地。四邊階道，金、銀、琉璃、玻璃合成。上有樓閣，亦以金、銀、琉璃、玻璃、硨磲、赤珠、瑪瑙而嚴飾之。池中蓮花大如車輪，青色青光、黃色黃光、赤色赤光、白色白光，微妙香潔。

Moreover, the Land of Ultimate Bliss has many jeweled ponds filled with the waters of eight virtues. The bottom of each of the ponds is pure golden sand, and the stepped walkways that lead up from all four sides of each of the ponds are made of gold, silver, lapis lazuli and crystal. Above the ponds there are towers which are adorned with silver and gold and lapis lazuli and crystal and mother of pearl and red agate. In the ponds there are lotus flowers as big as cartwheels: blue ones shining with blue light, yellow ones shining with yellow light, red ones shining with red light, and white ones shining with white light, each emitting a subtle pure fragrance. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Cực-lạc quốc độ thành tựu như thị công đức trang nghiêm.

舍利弗。極樂國土，成就如是功德莊嚴。

The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all these merits and adornments. 

Hựu Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ Phật quốc-độ thường tác thiên nhạc, huỳnh kim vi địa, trú dạ lục thời, vũ thiên mạn-đà-la hoa, kỳ độ chúng-sanh thường dĩ thanh đán, các dĩ y-kích thạnh chúng diệu hoa cúng dường tha phương thập vạn ức Phật, tức dĩ thực thời hườn đáo bổn quốc, phạn thực kinh hành.

又舍利弗。彼佛國土，常作天樂。黃金為地。晝夜六時，雨天曼陀羅華。其土眾生，常以清旦，各以衣祴盛眾妙華，供養他方十萬億佛，即以食時，還到本國，飯食經行。

And there is more -- celestial music is constantly playing in this Buddha-land, and the ground is made of tawny gold. Flowers in the shape of heavenly orbs rain down at all hours of the day and night. Every morning the sentient beings of this land decorate their garments with multitudes of wondrous flowers and make offerings to hundreds of billions of Buddhas in other worlds. When it is mealtime, they return to their own lands, to eat and circumambulate [the teaching assembly]. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Cực-lạc quốc độ thành tựu như thị công đức trang-nghiêm.

舍利弗。極樂國土，成就如是功德莊嚴。

The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all these merits and adornments. 

Phục thứ Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ-quốc thường hữu chủng chủng kỳ diệu, tạp sắc chi điểu: Bạch-hạc, Khổng-tước, Anh-võ, Xá-lợi, Ca-lăng-tần-già, Cộng-mạng chi điểu, thị chư chúng điểu, trú dạ lục thời, xuất hòa nhã âm, kỳ âm diễn xướng: ngũ-căn, ngũ-lực, thất-bồ-đề phần, bát-thánh-đạo phần, như thị đẳng pháp, kỳ độ chúng-sanh văn thị âm dĩ, giai tất niệm Phật, niệm Pháp, niệm Tăng.

復次舍利弗：「彼國常有種種奇妙雜色之鳥：白鶴、孔雀、鸚鵡、舍利、迦陵頻伽、共命之鳥。是諸眾鳥，晝夜六時，出和雅音。其音演暢五根、五力、七菩提分、八聖道分，如是等法。其土眾生，聞是音已，皆悉念佛、念法、念僧。」

And there is more still -- in this land there are birds of all sorts of wondrous variegated colors: white cranes, peacocks, orioles, myna birds, cuckoos. All these birds bring forth harmonious songs' day and night. Their songs communicate such Buddhist teachings as the five roots, the five powers, the seven factors of enlightenment, the eightfold path, as well as other teachings. When the sentient beings in this land hear the voices of the birds, they are mindful of the Buddhas, mindful of the Dharma [Buddha's teachings], and mindful of the Sangha [Community of Seekers of Enlightenment]. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Nhữ vật vị thử điểu, thiệt thị tội báo sở sanh. Sở dĩ giả hà? Bỉ Phật quốc-độ vô tam ác đạo. Xá-Lợi-Phất! Kỳ Phật quốc-độ thượng vô ác đạo chi danh, hà huống hữu thiệt, thị chư chúng điểu, giai thị A-Di-Đà Phật dục linh pháp-âm tuyên lưu biến hóa sở tác.

舍利弗。汝勿謂此鳥，實是罪報所生，

所以者何？彼佛國土，無三惡道。舍利

弗。其佛國土，尚無惡道之名，何況有

實。是諸眾鳥，皆是阿彌陀佛，欲令法

音宣流，變化所作。

Do not think that these birds were born as birds due to karmic retribution for past misdeeds. Why not? In this Buddha-land, the three evil planes of existence (as animals, hungry ghosts, and hell-beings) do not exist. In this Buddha-land even the names of the evil planes of existence do not exist, much less the realities. All these birds are the creations of Amitabha Buddha, fashioned in order to broadcast the sounds of the Dharma. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ Phật quốc-độ vi phong xuy động, chư bảo hàng thọ, cập bảo la võng, xuất vi diệu âm, thí như bá thiên chủng nhạc đồng thời cu tác, văn thị âm giả, tự nhiên giai sanh: niệm Phật, niệm Pháp, niệm Tăng chi tâm. 

舍利弗。彼佛國土，微風吹動諸寶行樹，及寶羅網，出微妙音，譬如百千種樂，同時俱作。聞是音者，自然皆生念佛、念法、念僧之心。

In this Buddha-land, there is a slight breeze that stirs the rows of jewel trees and jewel nets, so that they emit subtle wondrous sounds, like hundreds and thousands of melodies playing all at once. All those who hear these sounds spontaneously develop the intention to be mindful of the Buddha, mindful of the Dharma, and mindful of the Sangha. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Kỳ Phật quốc-độ, thành tựu, như thị công-đức trang-nghiêm.

舍利弗。其佛國土，成就如是功德莊嚴。

This Buddha-land is complete with all these merits and adornments. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Ư nhữ ý vân hà? Bỉ Phật hà cố hiệu A-Di-Đà? 

舍利弗。於汝意云何？彼佛何故號阿彌陀？

What do you think: why is this Buddha called Amitabha? 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ Phật quang-minh vô-lượng, chiếu thập phương quốc, vô sở chướng ngại, thị cố hiệu vi A-Di-Đà.

舍利弗。彼佛光明無量，照十方國，無所障礙，是故號為阿彌陀。

The light of this Buddha is infinite, and shines on all lands throughout the universe without obstruction. Thus, this Buddha is called Amitabha. 

Hựu Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ Phật thọ mạng, cập kỳ nhơn dân, vô lượng vô biên a-tăng-kỳ kiếp, cố danh A-Di-Đà.

又舍利弗。彼佛壽命，及其人民，無量無邊阿僧祇劫，故名阿彌陀。

Also, the life span of this Buddha and his people is an infinite number of immeasurable eons, and so he is called Amitabha. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! A-Di-Đà Phật thành Phật dĩ lai, ư kim thập kiếp.

舍利弗。阿彌陀佛成佛已來，於今十劫。

Amitabha Buddha attained enlightenment ten eons ago. 

Hựu Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ Phật hữu vô-lượng vô-biên Thinh-văn đệ-tử, giai A-la-hán, phi thị toán số chi sở năng tri; chư Bồ-tát chúng diệc phục như thị.

又舍利弗。彼佛有無量無邊聲聞弟子，皆阿羅漢，非是算數之所能知。諸菩薩眾，亦復如是。

Moreover, this Buddha has innumerable disciples, all of whom are Arhats, and whose numbers are incalculable. Amitabha also has a following of innumerable Bodhisattvas. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bỉ Phật quốc độ thành-tựu như thị công-đức trang-nghiêm.

舍利弗。彼佛國土，成就如是功德莊嚴。

The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all these merits and adornments.

Hựu Xá-Lợi-Phất! Cực-lạc quốc-độ chúng-sanh sanh giả, giai thị a-bệ-bạt-trí, kỳ trung đa hữu nhứt sanh bổ xứ, kỳ số thậm đa phi thị toán số, sở năng tri chi, đản khả dĩ vô-lượng vô-biên a-tăng-kỳ thuyết.

又舍利弗。極樂國土，眾生生者，皆是阿鞞跋致，其中多有一生補處，其數甚多，非是算數所能知之，但可以無量無邊阿僧祇說。

None of the sentient beings who are born in the Land of Ultimate Bliss ever fall back into a lower realm [i.e., they are avaivartika]. Many among them have only one more lifetime [to go before enlightenment]. These beings are very numerous, and their number is incalculable: they can be spoken of as innumerable. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Chúng-sanh văn giả, ưng đương phát nguyện, nguyện sanh bỉ quốc. Sở dĩ giả hà? Đắc dữ như thị chư thượng thiện-nhơn câu hội nhứt xứ.

舍利弗。眾生聞者，應當發願，願生彼國，所以者何？得與如是諸上善人俱會一處。

When sentient beings hear [of the Land of Ultimate Bliss], they must take a vow to be born in this land. Why so? So that they can be together with all these beings of superior goodness. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bất khả dĩ thiểu thiện-căn phước-đức nhơn-duyên, đắc sanh bỉ quốc. Xá-Lợi-Phất! Nhược hữu thiện-nam tử, thiện-nư nhơn, văn thuyết A-Di-Đà Phật, chấp trì danh-hiệu, nhược nhứt nhựt, nhược nhị nhựt, nhược tam nhựt, nhược tứ nhựt, nhược ngũ nhựt, nhược lục nhựt, nhược thất nhựt, nhứt tâm bất loạn. Kỳ nhơn lâm mạng chung thời, A-Di-Đà Phật dữ chư Thánh-chúng, hiện tại kỳ tiền, thị nhơn chung thời, tâm bất điên-đảo, tức đắc vãng-sanh A-Di-Đà Phật Cực-lạc quốc-độ.

舍利弗。不可以少善根福德因緣，得生彼國。舍利弗。若有善男子善女人，聞說阿彌陀佛，執持名號，若一日、若二日，若三日，若四日，若五日，若六日，若七日，一心不亂，其人臨命終時，阿彌陀佛，與諸聖眾，現在其前。是人終時，心不顛倒，即得往生阿彌陀佛極樂國土。

One cannot be born in this land through minor good roots, blessings, virtues and causal connections. If there are good men or good women who hear of Amitabha Buddha, and recite his name single mindedly and without confusion, for one day or two days or three days or four days or five days or six days or seven days, then when these people are about to die, Amitabha Buddha and all the sages who are with him will appear before them. When these people die, their minds will not fall into delusion, and they will attain rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's Land of Ultimate Bliss. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Ngã kiến thị lợi, cố thuyết thử ngôn, nhược hữu chúng-sanh văn thị thuyết giả, ưng đương phát nguyện, sanh bỉ quốc độ.

舍利弗。我見是利，故說此言。若有眾生，聞是說者，應當發願，生彼國土。

I have seen this benefit, and so I speak these words. If sentient beings hear what I say, they must make a vow to be born in that land. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Như ngã kim giả, tán thán A-Di-Đà Phật bất khả tư nghị công-đức chi lợi. Đông phương diệc hữu A-súc-bệ Phật, Tu-di-tướng Phật, Đại-tu-di Phật, Tu-di-quang Phật, Diệu-âm Phật; như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam-thiên đại-thiên thế-giới, thuyết thành thiệt ngôn: "Nhữ đẳng chúng-sanh đương tín thị xưng tán bất khả tư-nghị công-đức nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ-niệm kinh".

舍利弗。如我今者，讚歎阿彌陀佛，不可思議功德之利。東方亦有阿閦鞞佛、須彌相佛、大須彌佛、須彌光佛、妙音佛，如是等恆河沙數諸佛，各於其國，出廣長舌相，遍覆三千大千世界，說誠實言：『汝等眾生，當信是稱讚不可思議功德一切諸佛所護念經。』

Right now, I am extolling the benefits of the inconceivable merits of Amitabha Buddha. But in the eastern direction there are also countless other Buddhas, like Akshobhya Buddha, and the Buddha "Marks of the Polar Mountain", and the Buddha "Great Polar Mountain", and the Buddha "Light of the Polar Mountain", and the Buddha "Wondrous Voice". Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the truth. All of you sentient beings should believe this scripture extolling their inconceivable merits, and which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Nam phương thế-giới hữu Nhựt-Nguyệt-Đăng Phật, Danh-Văn-Quang Phật, Đại-Diệm-Kiên Phật, Tu-Di-Đăng Phật, Vô-Lượng Tinh Tấn Phật; như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam-thiên đại-thiên thế-giới, thuyết thành thiệt ngôn: "Nhữ đẳng chúng-sanh đương tín thị, xưng tán bất khả tư-nghị công-đức nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm kinh".

舍利弗。南方世界，有日月燈佛、名聞光佛、大焰肩佛、須彌燈佛、無量精進佛，如是等恆河沙數諸佛，各於其國，出廣長舌相，遍覆三千大千世界，說誠實言：『汝等眾生，當信是稱讚不可思議功德一切諸佛所護念經。』

In the worlds of the southern direction there are countless other Buddhas, like the Buddha "Lamp of the Sun and Moon", and the Buddha "Light of Renown", and the Buddha "Great Flaming Shoulders", and the Buddha "Lamp of the Polar Mountain", and the Buddha "Infinite Progress". Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the truth. All of you sentient beings should believe this scripture extolling their inconceivable merits, and which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Tây-Phương thế-giới hữu Vô-Lượng-Thọ Phật, Vô-Lượng-Tướng Phật, Vô-Lượng-Tràng Phật, Đại-Quang-Phật, Đại-Minh Phật, Bảo-Tướng Phật, Tịnh-Quang Phật; như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam-thiên đại-thiên thế-giới, thuyết thành thiệt ngôn: "Nhữ đẳng chúng-sanh đương tín thị, xưng tán bất khả tư-nghị công-đức nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm kinh".

舍利弗。西方世界，有無量壽佛、無量相佛、無量幢佛、大光佛、大明佛、寶相佛、淨光佛，如是等恆河沙數諸佛，各於其國，出廣長舌相，遍覆三千大千世界，說誠實言：『汝等眾生，當信是稱讚不可思議功德一切諸佛所護念經。』

In the worlds of the western direction there are countless other Buddhas, like the Buddha "Infinite Life", and the Buddha "Innumerable Characteristics", and the Buddha "Innumerable Banners", and the Buddha "Great Light", and the Buddha "Great Illumination", and the Buddha "Mark of Reality", and the Buddha "Light of Purity". Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the truth, all of you sentient beings should believe this scripture extolling their inconceivable merits, and which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Bắc phương thế-giới, hữu Diệm-Kiên Phật, Tối-Thắng-AÂm Phật, Nan-Thơ Phật, Nhựt-Sanh Phật, Võng Minh Phật; như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam-thiên đại-thiên thế-giới, thuyết thành thiệt ngôn: "Nhữ đẳng chúng-sanh đương tín thị, xưng tán bất khả tư-nghị công-đức nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ-niệm kinh".

舍利弗。北方世界，有焰肩佛、最勝音佛、難沮佛、日生佛、網明佛，如是等恆河沙數諸佛，各於其國，出廣長舌相，遍覆三千大千世界，說誠實言：『汝等眾生，當信是稱讚不可思議功德一切諸佛所護念經。』

In the worlds of the northern direction there are countless other Buddhas, like the Buddha "Flaming Shoulders", and the Buddha "Supreme Voice", and the Buddha "Unstoppable", and the Buddha "Born of the Sun", and the Buddha "Netted Light". Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the truth. All of you sentient beings should believe this scripture extolling their inconceivable merits, and which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Hạ phương thế-giới, hữu Sư-Tử Phật, Danh-Văn Phật, Danh-Quang Phật, Đạt-Ma Phật, Pháp-Tràng Phật, Trì-Pháp Phật; như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam-thiên đại-thiên thế-giới, thuyết thành thiệt ngôn: "Nhữ đẳng chúng-sanh đương tín thị, xưng tán bất khả tư-nghị công-đức nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm kinh".

舍利弗。下方世界，有師子佛、名聞佛、名光佛、達摩佛、法幢佛、持法佛，如是等恆河沙數諸佛，各於其國，出廣長舌相，遍覆三千大千世界，說誠實言：『汝等眾生，當信是稱讚不可思議功德一切諸佛所護念經。』

In the worlds of the nadir there are countless other Buddhas, like the Buddha "Lion", and the Buddha "Repute", and the Buddha "Light", and the Buddha "Dharma Banner", and the Buddha "Upholding the Dharma". Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the truth. All of you sentient beings should believe this scripture extolling their inconceivable merits, and which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Thượng phương thế-giới, hữu Phạm-AÂm Phật, Tú-Vương Phật, Hương-Thượng Phật, Hương-Quang Phật, Đại-Diệm-Kiên Phật, Tạp-Sắc-Bảo-Hoa-Nghiêm thân Phật, Ta-La-Thọ-Vương Phật, Bảo-Hoa-Đức Phật, Kiến-Nhứt-Thiết-Nghĩa Phật, Như-Tu-Di-Sơn Phật; như thị đẳng hằng hà sa số chư Phật, các ư kỳ quốc, xuất quảng trường thiệt tướng, biến phú tam-thiên đại-thiên thế-giới, thuyết thành thiệt ngôn: "Nhữ đẳng chúng-sanh đương tín thị, xưng tán bất khả tư-nghị công-đức nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm kinh".

舍利弗。上方世界，有梵音佛、宿王佛、香上佛、香光佛、大焰肩佛、雜色寶華嚴身佛、娑羅樹王佛、寶華德佛、見一切義佛、如須彌山佛，如是等恆河沙數諸佛，各於其國，出廣長舌相，遍覆三千大千世界，說誠實言：『汝等眾生，當信是稱讚不可思議功德一切諸佛所護念經。』

In the worlds of the zenith there are countless other Buddhas, like the Buddha "Pure Voice", and the Buddha "Sojourner King", and the Buddha "Incense Fragrance", and the Buddha "Fragrant Light", and the Buddha "Great Blazing Shoulders", and the Buddha "Body of Multicolored Jewel Flower Garlands", and the Buddha "Sala Tree King", and the Buddha "Precious Flower Virtue", and the Buddha "Sees All Truths", and the Buddha "Like the Polar Mountain". Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the truth. All of you sentient beings should believe this scripture extolling their inconceivable merits, which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! "Ư nhữ ý vân hà? Hà cố danh vi: Nhứt thiết chư Phật sở hộ niệm kinh"? Xá-Lợi-Phất! Nhược hữu thiện-nam tử, thiện-nữ nhơn văn thị kinh thọ trì giả, cập văn chư Phật danh giả, thị chư thiện-nam tử, thiện-nữ nhơn, giai vi nhứt-thiết chư Phật chi sở hộ niệm, giai đắc bất thối chuyển ư a-nậu-đa-la tam-miệu tam-bồ-đề. Thị cố Xá-Lợi-Phất! Nhữ đẳng giai đương tín thọ ngã ngữ, cập chư Phật sở thuyết.

舍利弗。於汝意云何？何故名為一切諸佛所護念經？舍利弗。若有善男子、善女人，聞是經受持者，及聞諸佛名者，是諸善男子、善女人，皆為一切諸佛之所護念，皆得不退轉於阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。是故舍利弗，汝等皆當信受我語，及諸佛所說。

Why do you think this is called the sutra that is protected and kept in mind by all the Buddhas? If there are good men and good women who hear this scripture, accept it, and uphold it, and they hear the names of all these Buddhas, all these good men and good women will be protected and kept in mind by all these Buddhas, and all of them will reach the level where they do not turn back from complete, unexcelled, correct enlightenment. Therefore, all of you should faithfully accept what I say and what all the Buddhas have said. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Nhược hữu nhơn dĩ phát nguyện, kim phát-nguyện, đương phát nguyện, dục sanh A-Di-Đà Phật quốc giả, thị chư nhơn đẳng giai đắc bất thối chuyển ư a-nậu-đa-la tam-miệu tam-bồ-đề, ư bỉ quốc độ nhược dĩ sanh, nhược kim sanh, nhược đương sanh. Thị cố Xá-Lợi-Phất! Chư thiện-nam tử, thiện-nữ nhơn, nhược hữu tín giả, ưng đương phát nguyện sanh bỉ quốc độ.

舍利弗。若有人已發願、今發願、當發願，欲生阿彌陀佛國者，是諸人等，皆得不退轉於阿耨多羅三藐三菩提，於彼國土，若已生、若今生、若當生。是故舍利弗，諸善男子、善女人，若有信者，應當發願，生彼國土。

All those people who have vowed, or are vowing, or will vow to be born in the land of Amitabha Buddha reach the level where they do not turn back from complete, unexcelled enlightenment, whether in their past lives, their present lives, or their future lives. Therefore, all good men and good women, if they have faith, must make a vow to be born in that land. 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Như ngã kim giả, xưng tán chư Phật bất khả tư nghị công-đức, bỉ chư Phật đẳng, diệc xưng tán ngã bất khả tư nghị công-đức nhi tác thị ngôn: "Thích-Ca Mâu-Ni Phật năng vi thậm nan hy hữu chi sự, năng ư Ta-bà quốc-độ ngũ-trược ác thế; kiếp-trược, kiến-trược, phiền-não trược, chúng-sanh trược, mạng-trược trung đắc a-nậu-đa-la tam-miệu tam-bồ-đề, vị chư chúng-sanh, thuyết thị nhứt thiết thế-gian nan tín chi pháp.

舍利弗，如我今者，稱讚諸佛不可思議功德，彼諸佛等，亦稱讚我不可思議功德，而作是言：『釋迦牟尼佛能為甚難希有之事，能於娑婆國土，五濁惡世，劫濁、見濁、煩惱濁、眾生濁、命濁中，得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。為諸眾生，說是一切世間難信之法。』

Just as I am now extolling the inconceivable merits of all the Buddhas, all those Buddhas are likewise extolling my inconceivable merits, with these words: "Shakyamuni Buddha is able to carry out a most difficult and rare task. In the world "Endurance" [this world], in an evil world of the Five Corruptions -the corruption of the age, the corruption of views, the corruption of afflictions, the corruption of sentient beings, and the corruption of life -- he is able to achieve complete, unexcelled enlightenment, and to expound the Truth which all beings in all worlds find hard to believe." 

Xá-Lợi-Phất! Đương tri ngã ư ngũ-trược ác thế, hành thử nan sự, đắc a-nậu-đa-la tam-miệu tam-bồ-đề, vị nhứt thiết thế-gian thuyết thử nan tín chi pháp, thị vi thậm nan.

舍利弗。當知我於五濁惡世，行此難事，得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提，為一切世間說此難信之法，是為甚難。

Know then that in the midst of this evil world of the Five Corruptions, I am able to carry out this difficult task, attain complete, unexcelled enlightenment, and expound the Truth which is so hard to believe for beings in all worlds. This is indeed most difficult! 

Phật thuyết thử kinh dĩ, Xá-Lợi-Phất cập chư Tỳ-kheo, nhứt thiết thế-gian, Thiên, Nhơn, A-tu-la đẳng, văn Phật sở thuyết, hoan-hỷ tín thọ, tác lễ nhi khứ.

佛說此經已，舍利弗，及諸比丘，一切世間天人阿修羅等，聞佛所說，歡喜信受，作禮而去。

When Buddha had finished preaching this scripture, Shariputra and all the monks and all the other gods and humans and asuras and the rest who had been listening, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and faithfully accepted it. They all bowed in homage and departed.
